Samsung unveil the Galaxy S20 range

Samsung held another Unpacked event today in San Fransisco where they introduced their new flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S20 range.

Following on from the Galaxy S10 range last year, Samsung is back with 3 flagship models, the Galaxy S20, S20+ and S20 Ultra.

Let’s start with what is similar. Each device is powered by the Samsung Exynos 990 processor or the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 (in the US) and all support 5G connectivity. There is Gorilla Glass 6 on the front and back, 8K video recording capability and a choice of 128GB or 512GB of storage which is also expandable up to 1TB via a microSD card. There is up to 12GB on RAM on the S20 and S20+ and up to 16GB on the Ultra. They all feature a Super AMOLED display with a 120hz refresh rate which gives ultra smooth scrolling.

Speaking of display, the S20 packs a 6.2″, the S20+ a 6.7″ and the S20 Ultra a 6.9″ display respectively. Other additions include huge batteries. 4000mAh on the S20, 4500mAh on the S20+ and a massive 5000mAh on the Ultra. The devices come with a 25W charger for fast charging speeds, however the Ultra will support up to 45W speeds.

Samsung Galaxy S20 range

The big change comes with the cameras. The S20 and S20+ features a 12MP wide, 64MP telephoto and a 12MP ultra wide lens. You can zoom in up to 30x with these devices using Samsung’s “Space Zoom” feature. There is also a 10MP selfie camera. As well as 8K recording, you can take stills from those videos which produces a 33MP photo.

The S20 Ultra on the other hand features a huge 108MP wide sensor as well as a 48MP telephoto, 12MP ultra wide sensor. The Ultra also has a lossless 10x zoom, and up to 100x Space Zoom. The front facing camera gets an upgrade to 40MP. Both the S20+ and S20 Ultra also have a depth vision camera to help with depth perception.

There are some great software enhancements too. The S20 range all run Android 10 and features Google’s new Live Caption feature which will automatically subtitle videos that are played on device. Google Duo is also built into the OS and supports HD video calling for up to 8 people.

The S20 range are available for pre-order now and due for release 13th March. There is a selection of colours, Cosmic Grey, Cosmic Black, Cloud Pink and Cloud Blue. Pricing starts at £799 for the S20, £999 for the S20+ and £1199 for the S20 Ultra.
